Crossminton, also known under its unofficial name speed badminton, is a sport that combines the best of badminton and squash. Unlike badminton, it doesn’t require a net. The court consists of two squares of 5.5 meters in length, 12.8 meters apart.
Unlike squash, crossminton can be played on any surface. To play, you need a special racket and a ball. The rackets are more robust and shorter than those used in badminton, to enable better ball control. The crossminton balls are called speeders and they look very much like badminton shuttlecocks, except they are heavier and smaller. This makes the game faster and less dependent on wind force when playing outdoors.
- You can play anywhere. You can mark the court with tapes, which can be purchased either separately or as part of a crossminton set.
- You can play anytime, even at night. Some tapes are reflective and the court can be illuminated with specialised light sticks. You can also buy reflective speeders.
- Heavier crossminton speeders can cope even with poor weather conditions.
- It’s an affordable and inexpensive sport suitable for everybody. For beginners, we recommend buying a set that includes everything you need - rackets, speeders, tapes to mark the court, fixing pins, and a wind ring.
