Intel Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of semiconductor circuits, introduces a new, extremely powerful processor designed primarily for servers, but also suitable for computer workstations. Designed mainly for maximum load and reliability in 24/7 operation, this CPU uses the Intel LGA2011-3 socket.
The processor has 12 physical cores and is part of the new Haswell range. Its production relies on the 22nm manufacturing process using the tri-gate 3D transistor technology. New instruction sets were also implemented, offering higher performance at the same clock frequency. Each core is clocked at 2.5 GHz, increasing up to 3.3 GHz with Turbo mode through automatic overclocking when necessary. Like the previous generation, this one has the memory controller integrated directly into the chipset. This time, it is a quad-channel DDR4 memory controller capable of operating at frequencies up to 2133 MHz. The CPU cache amounts to as many as 30 megabytes.
By changing the clock multiplier, this technology automatically overclocks cores under heavy load or, conversely, turns off unused ones. Each core has its own multiplier, which may result in a situation in which two cores are turned off while the remaining two run on different frequencies.
An indispensable feature of every modern server processor is the support for virtualization technologies. In this case, it is the Intel VT-x, with which you can seamlessly run several operating systems on one machine. It also supports the latest Intel VT-d technology, which adds support for I/O devices in a virtualized environment. This helps to increase system stability and security, as well as the performance of virtualized I/O devices, and also reduces the operating costs of data centres through more efficient utilisation of resources.
Also featured is the Enhanced Intel Speedstep technology, which reduces consumption when full power is not required.r.
As per the manufacturer's specifications, this processor has a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 120 W, and comes in a BOX package with no cooler.
