HPE Qualified Options mean every component has been through our rigorous qualification process that begins with using high-quality DIMMs, and extends beyond standard industry practice, to help enhance compatibility, performance, and reliability. 
HPE Advanced Memory Error Detection technology introduces refinements to error detection technology. Instead of simply counting each correctable memory error, this new technology analyses all correctable errors to determine which ones have a higher probability of leading to uncorrectable errors in the future. Using this advanced approach, HPE Advanced Memory Error Detection can better monitor the memory subsystem and increase the effectiveness of the Pre-Failure Alert notification. The new memory controllers will retry a memory request whenever a memory error or address parity error
occurs. This reduces the number of system halts that may have occurred due to transient errors in previous generations of memory subsystems.

HPE SmartMemory enables ProLiant Gen8 systems to reliably identify and verify whether installed memory has passed HPE's rigorous qualification and test processes. And because the memory is authenticated, extended memory performance features can be enabled through the system ROM. HPE SmartMemory will provide a platform to allow future memory-related support enhancements through HPE Active Health System, System Insight Management and Insight Control management software. Memory then outwardly behaves as a single module responsible for writing and reading of individual memory cells, and control passes to the outcome of these operations. This increases the efficiency of the memory access and the processing speed. 

As applications grow more complex, memory becomes more critical to rapid server startup, processing, and interaction. By integrating HPE SmartMemory, HPE ProLiant servers unlock an entirely new level of excellent performance for those resource-intensive apps. The server memory features two separately addressable areas (Memory rank). Most of the server chipsets either have limited memory rank or directly specified memory configuration for each slot, which is why it is essential to take into consideration future expansions - once the full memory rank on the motherboard is reached, it is not possible to add another module even if few slots remain free. 

Memory Modules featuring the "x8" chip build may be affordable, but do not support the advanced server technologies such as multiple-bit error correction, Chipkill, memory scrubbing or Intel Single Device DataCorrection (SDDC), so they are considered ideal for the "entry-level" servers only.
