What is the deep web?

What is the deep web, or why is the "deep" name for that part of the Internet the most outstanding? In connection with the deep web, it is often useful to compare it to a glacier. As with the glacier, even in the case of a deep web, only a peak is visible to ordinary viewers, while a much larger section is hidden in the darkness below the surface. Surveys specifically point to the fact that for us, the visible part of the Internet or Surface web accounts for roughly 4% of the total Internet capacity, and 96% of the entire Internet is just deep web .

Deep web vs. Dark web. Are these synonyms?

Deep web and dark web are two very similar terms, but they are definitely not synonymous . While the deep web is defined as all the content that a web search engine does not index, the dark web is a specific part of a deep web containing intentionally hidden information unavailable through all commonly used web browsers (Chrome, Mozilla, Opera). The largest area on the dark web is the TOR network, which, thanks to almost 100% anonymity, is primarily reserved for illegal affairs and services.

At the same time, according to many activists, the dark web (TOR Network) offers a last chance for privacy and freedom of speech - political discussions take place and political forums are set up, which in countries with undemocratic systems, require the highest level of anonymity.

How bitcoin influenced the dark web and vice versa

Bitcoin allows users to make payments completely anonymously, using the encrypted peer-to-peer network on which the entire concept of cryptography is built. That's why bitcoin allowed the rise of illegal markets on the dark web. Without it (and without further cryptography), the dark web simply would not be what it is today.
